Short description
MovieCat scans your folders for movies and TV shows, recognises each title from its file name and shows the poster, rating, year and a short summary. No account, sign-up or API key needed.
Long description
Many people keep movies and TV shows as files: rips of their own discs, recordings, folders on an external drive or a home server. In Finder or Explorer they are just cryptic names like The.Matrix.1999.1080p.BluRay.x264.mkv. MovieCat turns them into a poster library.
It understands typical release names, folder layouts, TV season and episode numbers (including anime-style numbering) and foreign titles, so Det.Sjunde.Inseglet.1957.mkv becomes The Seventh Seal. "Find movies automatically" searches the home folder and external drives and proposes the folders that hold films and series, while home videos, screen recordings and tutorials stay out. Users can rate titles 1–10, search, filter and sort, fix a wrong match in seconds, and play a file or show it in its folder with one click.
MovieCat uses free public movie databases (IMDb search suggestions, Cinemeta and TVmaze; TMDB optional) and has no accounts, analytics or tracking. The library stays on the user's computer.
