MovieCat Privacy Policy
MovieCat is made by AB Cx3. It is designed to keep your data on your computer.
What MovieCat does not do
- No accounts, no sign-in.
- No analytics, tracking, advertising identifiers or crash reporting.
- We (AB Cx3) do not receive or store any of your data.
What stays on your computer
The folders you add, the list of files found, your own ratings, cached movie information and your optional TMDB API key are stored only in MovieCat's data folder on your computer. Deleting the app removes them.
What is sent over the internet
To recognise a title, MovieCat sends the title (and year) it reads from a file name as a search query to these services, and downloads posters and descriptions from them:
- IMDb's public search suggestions (imdb.com, media-imdb.com, m.media-amazon.com)
- Cinemeta (strem.io / metahub.space)
- TVmaze (tvmaze.com)
- TMDB (themoviedb.org), only if you add your own TMDB API key
File paths, folder names and other file contents are never sent. These services may log requests (including your IP address) according to their own privacy policies.
Opening a link (for example "Open on IMDb" or the ABCx3 banner) opens your web browser or the App Store, which are governed by their own policies.
